Close to Home: Human Trafficking in New Jersey
As part of a group of student’s capstone project for the Leadership Fellows program, held this Zoom event to help raise awareness and shine a light on the issue of human trafficking. Their hope was that by the end of the event attendees came away with the knowledge that human trafficking is not just an international problem; that this injustice occurs in our very own backyard. Most importantly, this group of students looked to inspire hope in those who join them for the event: hope that this problem isn’t as intangible as it may seem and that there are ways to tackle this crisis.
The problem of human trafficking was discussed through a state-centered lens. The event touched upon personal experiences with human trafficking, legislative efforts to combat human trafficking, human trafficking and the internet, and prosecuting those who engage in human trafficking. This event is for anyone who wishes to educate themselves about the multi-faceted crisis of human trafficking.
